Launched in 2023 in response to a global communications need, Open Planet is fast-becoming a cornerstone of the climate and nature community. Now a member of the UN’s SDG Media Compact, with a mission to scale-up trusted communications about our changing planet, the visionary storytelling platform is delivering global impact in three critical areas:

* Capturing and sharing trusted, world-class visual content, with **12,000 clips** freely available for education and impact use.
* Supporting a growing community of **over 1,300 storytellers across 107 countries**, sharing an incredible diversity of stories to millions worldwide.
* Delivering **transformative storytelling in partnership** with a global network of individuals and organisations committed to creating a more sustainable future.

In the year that saw Open Planet’s content captivate world leaders at every major global event and decision-making forum determining the future of our planet, the same high-quality visuals were transformed into compelling stories by community voices and grassroots filmmakers to deliver meaningful, local engagement.

Across the inspiring myriad of campaign communications, events and creative content made possible by Open Planet, a united message rang clear: storytelling has never been more important than in our collective race to restore our world.

For Open Planet, 2025 marks a critical year for scaling its impact in the face of increasingly turbulent planetary changes. Latest reports show 2024 is set to be the [hottest year on record](https://wmo.int/news/media-centre/2024-track-be-hottest-year-record-warming-temporarily-hits-15degc), while [84% of targets](https://unstats.un.org/sdgs/report/2024/) for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals are off track for 2030, and misinformation and disinformation are ranked top of the [global risks tracker](https://www.weforum.org/publications/global-risks-report-2024/digest/).

By further growing and enhancing the Open Planet library as a valuable, accessible resource, together with establishing new impact partnerships, Open Planet can ensure everyone, everywhere, has the tools they need to drive real change.

> “Collaboration is at the heart of our mission and the global fight for our planet. As we approach a critical midpoint in this decisive decade, we are actively seeking strategic funding partners who can help drive our mission further, faster, and ensure Open Planet remains a free resource forever.”
>
> — Kate Goldman-Toomey, Executive Director of Partnerships for Open Planet
