Understanding Food Supply Risk and National Preparedness
Disruption of the food supply is an acknowledged resilience risk in the UK. Although the food system in the UK is effective, it is susceptible to shocks like extreme weather, international conflicts, fuel shortages, or supply chain breakdowns.
Civil food resilience, or the capacity of communities and services to plan for disruption and preserve access to food during catastrophes, needs to be strengthened, according to national work led by the National Preparedness Commission.
The Commission is an independent, non-political group that advocates for policies and practical actions to assist the United Kingdom in preventing, coping with, responding to, and recovering from severe shocks such as pandemics, climatic impacts, and geopolitical disturbance.
